I’ve heard joy defined as, “The happy state that results from knowing and serving God, and it is the fruit of a right relationship with Him.”

Joy is not just about feelings, so do not limit it to such. While feelings are certainly involved, those are not all joy is.

Joy may not always be expressed in laughter, but when it is present in your life it will be readily apparent, like with Paul and Silas in prison in Acts 16:25.

Joy isn’t something that takes you captive against your will, it is a discipline. There is no experience in the life of a child of God where joy cannot be experienced, but we must cultivate it. We must choose faith, not fear; others, not self; eternal, rather than temporal. We must fill our lives with the right things, following and obeying Jesus.
