Don’t be a hater. Never get angry. Hate and anger are bad… right?

Nope, not always. (Ecclesiastes 3:8)

So, is it okay to hate and be angry? Short answer: Yes, but only if it is for the right reasons and dealt with the right way.

Long answer: Anger and hate are not always bad. God Himself gets angry and hates things. But He is God and He is GOOD, so He never gets angry for the wrong reason and He never over-reacts to what He hates. We are human and we are corrupt. We get angry for stupid and wrong reasons, and we hate for no apparent or good reason. But when you look at God’s rules and His character, you will find the appropriate things to hate and be angry at, and how to act upon them appropriately.

Hold on, though!

This does not give you permission to go and yell at people, saying rudely that God hates them and everything they do. Don’t be one of those “Christians.” It puts people off. No one wants to be around a God that hates them and encourages hateful followers.

While there are things that you can and should hate and be angry over, you need to do these for the right reason and then act upon them correctly. How do you know what you should and should not hate? If God hates it, you should hate it. If God gets angry about it, you should get angry about it. Examples: Deuteronomy 6:14-15 & 32:16-21; Psalm 30:4-5, 85:2-3 & 103:8-9; Proverbs 6:16-19 & 8:13; Zechariah 8:17

But also remember that you are NOT God. He can do things about the objects of hate and anger that you can’t, and you shouldn’t because you’re not God and you’re not perfect. Listen to God when it comes to what you should and should not hate, and what you should or should not do about it. Listen to God when it comes to what you should and should not be angry about, and how angry you should be.

But don’t forget to be loving and merciful like God as well. Hold to the same values that God does. This involves anger and love, hate and mercy.
