There is a children’s song in church (to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It”) that goes:

Oh be careful, little eyes, what you see.
Oh be careful, little eyes, what you see.
For the Father up above is looking down in love,
Oh be careful, little eyes, what you see.

It goes on to tell the rest of you to be careful. Be careful, little ears, what you hear. Be careful, little mouth, what you say. Be careful, little hands, what you do. Be careful, little feet, where you go. A simple, easy song, but full of a lot of truth.

We adults like to have complex way of going about godly living, but it often isn’t as complex as we try to make it. Struggle with a particular sin? Avoid the temptation! Be careful what you look at, what you listen to, what you say, what you do, and where you go. It’s that simple and yet that difficult.

It is simple because those are pretty non-complicated instructions. It is difficult because temptation is around us all the time. But don’t forget that the Father up above is looking down in love. He can and will help you because He loves you. Being careful isn’t something you do all by yourself for no reason. You do it with God because He loves you and you love Him.
