Sometimes I picture my relationship with God like a mother and her small child making cookies in the kitchen. The mother doesn’t need her child’s help, and might even have an easier time without it. But she lets her child help her anyway.

God doesn’t need me, either. But sometimes He lets me help. I’m not very good at helping, but that’s why He’s giving me the practice. I need to learn, and God loves me and wants me to learn. I will never be so good at helping that God will just let me handle everything, but I can get better at things. I also need to be mindful of pride, or God will tell me to sit aside for a bit.

God doesn’t need us. He’s God, He already knows and owns everything. He’s always been in control of everything. But because He loves us, He lets us help anyway.
