We sometimes treat our relationship with God as if it is long distance. So we treat prayers like phone calls, or e-mails, or sending a message by dove. But we are not in a long distance relationship with God! If you are saved, God is immanent – He is within you. In the Bible God gives us a name for this, speaking of when Jesus came: Immanuel, “God (is) with us.” (Isaiah 7:14) When Jesus left, the Holy Spirit came. (John 14:16, 26) We may sometimes limit the relationship for ourselves by assuming or acting like it is long distance, but there is no long distance with God!

God is also omnipresent. Since He is within us and always by us, our relationship with Him is allowed to be one of a close, dear friend. What’s more, God allows us to come to Him as children. We’re allowed to relate closely to God like a child, and even call Him our Father! (Matthew 6:6; Romans 8:15; Galatians 4:6) So when we pray, we are actually talking to God right there. There is no delay, there is no wishful hoping that He’ll hear or answer. He’s right there next to and inside you, listening to you talk and talking to you.
