Sometimes when you want to achieve or have something, you have to work a long time for it. We’ll use exercise as an example.

When you exercise you get a lot of health benefits, and it doesn’t even have to be a lot of exercise! Just fifteen to thirty minutes of walking a few times a week will work wonders. But with any exercise, whether you’re building up your frame, slimming down your frame, or just trying to be a little healthier, you have to be consistent. If you want the benefits, you have to keep doing it. If you want to have the long-term benefits of exercise, you have to exercise long-term.

Yep. That’s how it works, I can say it from experience. After a few weeks I noticed a general change in my ability to handle greater physical activity. But now after months, I’m only just beginning to see on the outside what (somewhat) regular exercise has been doing on the inside.

Now we come to two important words: Commitment and Discipline.

“Oh! How could you say those dirty words!?”

Like this: Com-mit-ment and Di-scip-line.

Our very walks with God require commitment and discipline. Fortunately we don’t have to do it alone. God walks with us. God gives us friends to walk with us. God gives us the ability and encouragement to do what we can’t do completely alone.

But we each have a choice in the matter. Will I continue to walk, consistently and persistently? Will I choose to commit to God and choose the discipline required to keep walking?
