I’ve learned in life that sometimes physical things can translate to and be compared to abstract concepts. I’m not entirely sure when I really started learning this, but I think part of it might have been somewhere in the time that I took Kung Fu lessons.

The first time I was supposed to break a board I was scared I wouldn’t be able to do it. My Sifu (teacher) told me that I could, and that I was going to do it. He told me how to do it, and he compared it to a life problem.

When you strike, you don’t stop at the board. You go through the board, or you won’t break it. You go through the board to reach what’s on the other side. In this case the other side had a ball, but life usually has better rewards.

As I go through life, I realize there are more physical things that you can compare to abstract things to help you understand.

If you have a void it must be filled. If you take something out of it, you must put something back in or it will suck in the closest thing. Your spirit and soul work the same way.

What you fill something with is what you will get out of it. If you put peas in a jar, you will get peas out of that jar. If you put rancid meat in the jar, you will get rancid meat out of it. What do you fill your mind and soul with? What do you use to fill others?

You have to use the correct fuel for your car or body to run the best it can. You need to feed your spirit with God’s Word, wisdom, and presence in order to live the way He tells you.

All the parts of your body work together. If something doesn’t work, it affects the whole body in some way. If you have a team of people, you must all work together or you won’t perform to your full potential.

If you leave a physical wound open and untreated, it won’t heal. You must close it and treat it properly. It also won’t heal if you keep bothering it and if you don’t rest. Emotional and mental wounds also need treatment, rest, and healing, just like physical wounds.

You can see things happening on a stage, but there’s so much more that goes on behind it, and before you even see it.

Everything you see, be it a physical object, an abstract idea, or an action, has something behind it.

Do you have any physical things that you have learned to apply to abstract things? Tell me about it. I want to learn!

Oh, and I still have the broken board.
