How do I know that I love God?

When I love God, I will do what He says (John 14:15 & 21, 15:10 & 14; Romans 13:8-10; 1 John 5:2-3). That’s what we do when we love anyone really. When we love someone we tend to do what they say and really listen to them. But the difference between God and another human is that God will never tell us to do anything that is harmful to us, accidentally or on purpose. God knows what is best and will never require anything less.

What does it look like when I love God?

When I love God, I will also love others and the Holy Spirit will tell me that I am doing rightly (Matthew 23:36-40; John 13:34-35, 15:12-17; 1 Thessalonians 4:9; 1 John 3:10-11 & 23-24, 4:7-13). Loving God has a lot to do with loving others, and loving others has a lot to do with loving God.
