Last night in the 2 and 3 year old’s class, we learned about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego as they were threatened with death in a fiery furnace (Daniel 3). Suddenly a part of the lesson stuck out for me almost as if it was new.
When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego told the king that they wouldn’t worship his false god, that’s all they did. They stated simply what they were going to do and what they were not going to do, and that God would take care of the rest. The Bible doesn’t say they were afraid. It doesn’t say they were angry. But it is strongly implied that they were trusting. Even when they were being taken to the furnace, the Bible mentions no struggle from the three men.
They didn’t cower before the king. They didn’t yell at the king or anyone else. They just said what was what, and decided to be okay with however God chose to handle this.
I just love the sense of security, faith, and trust they had! “We might live, we might die. Either way is good since God knows what He’s doing.”
It’s almost as if they were comfortable with the whole thing. Even later on in the fire when the king noticed a fourth man “like the Son of God,” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were just walking around in the fire with the fourth man.
“Watcha doin’?”
“Nuttin’. Just chillin’ in the fire.”
Just trusting God. Not being afraid, not being angry, not yelling. Just trusting.
