When I play and/or sing “God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen,” I like to slow down and pause on the lyric that says “the Son of God by name.” Think about it. The Son of God, but with a name!

Since the fall of man in the garden of Eden, God slowly revealed prophecies about his plan to save humanity from our fallenness through a Savior. Little by little throughout Israel’s history, God revealed pieces of prophecy about the Savior He was going to send. Throughout the Bible are so many prophecies about Jesus, a few with something to call Him like Emmanuel, but none with His name. Then when it was finally time, God sent Jesus and gave His name!

Jesus! The Son of God, by name!
