The more I work with children, the more I wonder what God must feel like with humanity in general.

I know a lot of things that children don’t, so there are a lot of things I can tell them with authority on a given subject or behavior. I know what’s best more than they do. But because they don’t know what they don’t know and because they don’t always think I know what I’m talking about, they don’t always listen. Sometimes they try to listen, but then they get distracted and they don’t.

Similarly but in a cosmically larger way, God knows everything that we humans don’t, and there are a lot of things He can tell us with authority on a given subject or behavior. He knows what’s best more than we do. But because we don’t know what we don’t know and because we don’t always think God knows what He’s talking about, we don’t always listen. Sometimes we try to listen, but then we get distracted and we don’t.

Humans of all ages worry about things that aren’t our business, we do things we know we shouldn’t, and we don’t do things we know we should. But here God is, still patiently working with us because He cares so much!
