When you learn to walk as a little child, you need a lot of help. Someone needs to be there to help you balance and to be sure you don’t get injured. But you also need to be allowed to fall and get back up by yourself, otherwise you’ll never walk properly.

When you start consistently walking on your own, you don’t need your hand held as often. You might start to walk farther away from the person who always held your hand. This is only bad when you wander too far or to the wrong place.

Sometimes our walk with God is like this. At times we might not feel God’s hand. That might be because we’ve strayed away from Him, or it might be because we already know how to walk without help. At times we might feel like we’ve fallen, but God is still there keeping an eye on us, encouraging us to get up and try again. Whatever is going on, we can rest assured that God enjoys long walks with us.
