Lately I’ve been thinking about all the different things in the Bible, and figured I’d list a few random ones and see if you can guess who the people are and where in the Bible the accounts are found. I’ll put the Scripture references in parentheses at the end of each description.

A man is imprisoned for political reasons, sure his execution is forthcoming. He thinks he dreamed his escape, but finds it was real. One of his friends is so excited to see him that she momentarily forgets to let him inside the house. (Acts 12:1-18)

God tells a prophet to marry an unfaithful woman, and their relationship becomes an allegory for the way God feels about how His own people have treated Him by worshipping other gods. (The book of Hosea)

A woman assassinates an enemy of Israel with a hammer and a tent peg. (Judges 4-5)

A man who has had the opportunity to try everything decides that none of it really matters, but also it does matter. (The book of Ecclesiastes)

A man gets sold into slavery by his own jealous brothers, works his way up, gets arrested for something he didn’t do, then works his way up again and eventually becomes king. (Genesis 37 & 39-41)

A widow in the middle of a famine prepares to make one last meal for her and her son, but suddenly has all the food she and her son need after feeding a prophet. Later, the same woman also has her son raised from the dead. (1 Kings 17:8-24)
