God doesn’t want us to go to Hell, so He used His own rules to give us a loophole, if you will, so we could go to Heaven. Sometimes when we Christians talk to people about the sacrifice Jesus made to pay for our sins with His life, death, burial, and resurrection, some people will be upset and say, “I didn’t ask Jesus to die for me.”
That’s correct. You didn’t ask Jesus to die for you, and I didn’t ask Jesus to die for me. Very young children don’t ask their parents to give them a safe, loving home either, but the parents do so because they love their children. A pre-born baby doesn’t ask their parents to prepare for their arrival; the parents do so because they love their baby. A toddler doesn’t ask their parents to teach them how to use a fork or how to use the toilet, yet their parents teach them so they can do more things on their own. The parents love their child and don’t want to send them off to helplessly fail in life. A child doesn’t ask their parents to keep them safe and provide for them, but the parents do so automatically and lovingly because they want their child to have all they need. Parents also anticipate their child’s needs and get things ready in advance, well before that child realizes they’ll have those needs as they get older. You and I never asked Jesus to die for our sins because we didn’t know we needed to, but He always knew what we needed, so He provided it for us because He loves us!
No one ever asked Jesus to die for them; He did that because He knew we needed it before we ever knew. He thought of the solution to our sin problem before we even had it. And even after we’re made aware of our sin problem, most of us don’t realize the only way to fix it unless someone tells us about Jesus. Like children, none of us realize our need at first, but because Jesus loves us, we don’t even have to ask for it to be provided. Jesus already has what you need and is holding it out for you.
