Picture a man hanging over a cliff, held by his hand in his friend’s determined grasp. The hanging man has something in his other hand, and it is quite heavy. He holds it as if it could be valuable.
“Let go of it!” the holding man says. “I can’t pull you up if you don’t let go!”
The hanging man looks down at his heavy object. He looks back up at his friend, shaking his head and refusing to let go.
“Let go! Release it!” the holding man continues to say. “You don’t need it! It’s not even helping you!”
The hanging man once more looks down at the object he holds. He doesn’t need it. It isn’t helping him. Getting back up is much easier without it.
So release it. It is the only way back to safety.
