When I was teaching the little kids at church about Jesus coming to be born, we talked about the gifts the wise men brought. I asked the kids if they knew what gifts the wise men had brought. One of them replied, “Essential oils. My mom has some frankincense.”
He wasn’t entirely wrong. Myrrh and frankincense are technically oils that you can buy to use. But back to the gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. These were all very expensive gifts. Gifts that were the best you could give. Gifts you give to a king. And these wise men knew that Jesus is the King.
So when you serve the King, what gifts are you bringing? Your leftovers, your extra, or all of your very best?
