When Jesus came to die for our sins, He didn’t come because He had to. No one made Him die. He wanted to pay for our sins because He loves us. He didn’t pay for sin just so we can go to Heaven, it was also for God to have a relationship with us. He wants to love us, and He wants us to love Him back. He wants to show love and to be shown love.
God decided to love us. He didn’t just feel like it, He made up His mind to love us. And He loved first. We don’t know how to love. We naturally do not have the ability to love without condition like God does. When God shows us this unconditional, His own choice, no-matter-what-you-do kind of love, it demands a response from us. We either return the affection and let Him teach us how to really love, or we ignore and snub His beautiful passion for us.
When Jesus died on the cross and rose again on the third day, that was God’s expression of love. That was God saying, “I love you.” That was God saying, “Be Mine,” to all humanity.
