I’ve been reading The Lord of the Rings and I’ve gotten to the point where the main protagonist is becoming very weary in body and mind. His road is hard, the way ahead is dark, and his burden is increasingly heavy, so he is leaning more and more on the support of his friend, often literally as well as figuratively. He himself admitted that he wouldn’t have gotten far without his friend. It got me thinking about how important it is to have a good friend. Even God says good friends and companions are important (Proverbs 27:17; Ecclesiastes 4:9-12).
So as I’ve said before, don’t walk alone. Walk with God and the good friends He gives you. Walking is difficult and sometimes dark and discouraging, but God knows that we need special help and encouragement from time to time. So God brings us good friends (or sends us to them), and God Himself walks with us! Remember, there is a Friend that sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24).
