We are nearing the end of the year. This is a time when many of us reflect on how the year has gone and project how we want this next year to go. Doing both of these is important. The past is a good place to learn, but not a good place to live. Think back on what you’ve learned. Decide what you’re going to take with you and what you will leave behind. Here are some things that I’ve picked up for myself and from other people that I will be taking into the future.

Never do anything you wouldn’t want to explain to the paramedics.

People are not objects in your way, they are living beings that God loves.

Don’t be afraid to ask God for something. He loves you, so don’t be afraid to talk to Him about your feelings and desires. And don’t be afraid to listen to His. You may find more in common than you thought!

Eat your vegetables, take your vitamins, drink your water, wash your hands, and take some walks.

Ask God for wisdom and then pursue knowing Him more (Job 36:5; Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:7 & 9:10). God has all the wisdom, and is generous to those who truly desire it (James 1:5-6).

Sometimes we seek God for His gifts rather than His heart. There is more “give me” than “forgive me.”

God will often change you before He changes your situation.

When you ask God for help and healing, He might repair something you didn’t even know was broken.

Do what God says no matter who likes it. God knows best, so if God told you something it is the best thing to do and you’d better do it. It will have the best outcome. Do what is right, and leave the consequences to God.

Spend time with your loved ones even when you don’t feel like it. You’ll all be better for the bonding of love.

Want any of your relationships to be better? Communication is key! Talk with each other.

If you want to become good at something, you must do three things: 1) practice, 2) practice, 3) practice. Pro tip: Practice with someone better than you.

If you want results you need to have and develop Discipline. If you want to keep the results, you must keep the discipline.

Do the dishes or the laundry for someone. It’s magic, trust me.

Sometimes you shouldn’t be the first to let go when hugging. You never know how much the other person needs it.

Refuse to live below your calling. God has called you to be holy. God has called you to be highly loving. God has called you to an epic adventure. Follow the King, and be true to His call.

Make time for certain things, or you will never find the time for them.

There are some things God will not show you until you persistently look for them. There are some things God cannot show you until you persistently look for them.

God’s idea is always better than yours. It doesn’t matter how good your idea is, God’s is better. God’s idea is always better than yours.
