Yesterday morning the associate pastor at my church preached from Mark 12:13-17. Take a moment to read it, and then I’ll tell you one of the things I took home from it.

Jesus was asked a question mean to trip Him up. But Jesus is never tripped up. He responded with the correct answer, but in a way that expressed very important points.

The question was essentially, “Should we pay taxes, yes or no?”

The answer was essentially, “Yes,” but that isn’t how Jesus worded it, and He didn’t stop at “Pay your taxes.”

Jesus said, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

Caesar minted the coin and put it into circulation. The coin had Caesar’s image on it, so what is his should be rendered to him.

God created us. Humans are made bearing God’s image (Genesis 1:27), so what is God’s should be rendered to Him!
