We all have consciences. We don’t always use them the way we should. Ignoring your conscience dulls and damages it, making it less effective and less sensitive in the future. When you constantly brush through the thorns your conscience said not to, your conscience can grow calloused, and you can find yourself doing worse and worse things – things you never would have thought of doing when your conscience was more tender.
Sometimes our consciences are like engines; they need a check-up or a tune-up, sometimes even repair. Having morally upright friends helps, since they can point out if your conscience engine isn’t running properly, and they can even help you correct the problem. But the best way to make sure your conscience is operating at peak capacity is to take it to the God who built it. Nothing like getting factory-direct maintenance and repairs!
Sometimes our consciences are like pianos; they need re-tuning, re-stringing, or even more intensive repairs. Again, having morally upright friends helps, since they can point out if your conscience song playing a little off-key. But again, the best way to make sure your conscience is perfectly in tune is to take it to the God who built it. Nothing like having the master musician make sure your instrument is able to give peak performance!
And remember, whether you just need maintenance or whether you need full-on repair, God can do both!
