Backsliding (which is usually Christian-speak for sliding back into the bad parts of who you were before God saved you) isn’t something that happens all at once. It usually happens little by little, like slowly raising the temperature of water or slowly getting used to feeling sleep deprived. It’s a slow sliding backwards that you usually don’t notice until you look around you.

Godliness isn’t something that happens all at once either. You don’t accidentally become more Christ-like, you must put forth effort. It usually happens little by little, like getting stronger at the gym or practicing your scales on an instrument. It’s a slow climb upwards that you usually don’t notice until you look around you.

Backsliding and godliness don’t happen all of a sudden. Guard against one and strive towards the other.
