(For blogs on the first two trips to the Amazing Grace Children’s Home: Amazing Grace Children’s Home and Second Trip to AGCH)
The group on this trip had a great time again with the children in Mexico! I always pick up something new when I’m there, and I don’t mean just linguistically. This time I was struck by something that I’ve thought about before, but got a better answer for this time.
Each year about two or three of the children give their testimonies about how they came to the children’s home and subsequently learned about Jesus Christ, whose love heals their traumatic wounds. The thing that got my attention this time was that none of these children seem to question why any of these terrible things happened to them. While some mention crying out to God for help during their desperate circumstances, I don’t remember any of the children mentioning asking God why these things happened to them. As I listened to the devotional Bible lessons for the next couple mornings and as I interacted with the kids, I understood why: They know there is no event in their lives that they are better without because these events all brought them to Jesus.
The things that happen to us all, good or bad, are supposed to bring us closer to Jesus. Jesus can take the worst things and turn them into the best things. Jesus will not let our suffering be wasted, and He can and will heal any wounds that it causes!
