What do you want to get out of life? What is it that you want to have or be right now, or at least by the end of your days?
What does God want you to get out of life? What does God want you to have and to be?
I can’t tell you what you want out of life. I don’t know what you want. That is a question that you need to answer for yourself. But be sure that it is in tune with what God wants, or it won’t matter because it won’t fulfill you.
I can’t tell you exactly what God wants you to get out of life, either. He has good, different, and detailed plans for each of His children. But I can tell you that it is His purpose and Divine will for you to bring Him glory and to be more like Him every day. It is His will for you to show others what He is like, to point others to Him and tell them what He wants them to hear. This has different specifics and implications for each of God’s children. Just look at the believers that have gone before us. Look at the believers around you right now. Look at yourself.
I may not know what you want or what God wants specifically for you, but I can tell you what I want. I ask God for this a lot. I want wisdom and understanding. I want to know when I should or should not speak. I want to know what to say, how to say it, and when to say it. I want to know when I should or should not get involved with something. I want to know what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. I want to have godly discernment and always know the truth. I want to be able to explain, to answer difficult questions for anyone who asks. I know this is going to take a long time – my whole life, actually. But I want to study, I want to learn. I’m picking it up as we walk along.
I also want to be able to love everyone, be they a stranger or someone who has wronged me sorely. I haven’t had experience with the latter, and I almost hope I never do. But I know that all the people that I see, and all the ones that I don’t, each have hopes, dreams, and struggles of their own. God loves them, and He’s teaching me how to love them, too. I see strangers all the time, and I talk to God about them. I may have even talked to God about you. Don’t worry, it has only been good.
I don’t know what else I will be learning from God throughout life, but I’ll pick it up as we go. I’m learning to want what God wants.
