I’m going to talk about two kinds of God’s will: God’s general or revealed will, and God’s specific will. God’s general or revealed will is what He’s laid out in the Bible for everyone to see, hear, and know. God’s specific will is what He lets each believer know individually for the specific path He has planned for us. God’s specific will for a person will never disagree with His general already revealed will.

I’m going to summarily repeat some of what I’ve said before in the post God’s Will by saying this: You can’t know God’s specific will unless you already know and are doing His general/revealed will. If you can’t – or won’t – do something as simple as follow the directions God already gave everyone, then you certainly won’t follow anything more specific that requires even more of you. It’s like trying to do algebra without ever having learned basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. It’s like trying to do geometry without ever having learned what certain shapes are even called. It’s like trying to read without knowing what the letters should sound like.

If you want to know God’s will of either kind, then you need to be reading and studying His Bible, you need to be praying, and you need to be willing to do what you learn. Getting to know how God thinks and feels is crucial to learning what He wants and why He wants it. God wants to work together with us. God wants the whole world to know and relate with Him.
