I noticed something I had written a while back, True Accomplishments, and thought of something else that has to do with true accomplishments: Paul had a lot of personal accomplishments, but they didn’t mean anything to him in light of God’s Gospel and knowing Jesus more (Philippians 3:4-14). Paul didn’t even consider his accomplishments for Jesus as something to just lie back on, and he continued to accomplish even more for the cause of Christ.
This got me thinking, how often do I settle for personal accomplishments, or lean back on what I’ve already done instead of continuing to do God’s will? It’s not wrong to look back on good things you’ve done and be happy about them, but it is wrong to leave it at that and stop when there is more you should do.
Am I accomplishing things for Christ, or for myself? Am I pressing towards the mark? (Philippians 3:13-14) Am I laying aside every weight – including what’s just good instead of what’s best – and looking forward to Jesus instead of looking back – on the good as well as the bad? (Hebrews 12:1-2)
