Getting saved, believing in Jesus’ work in His birth, life, death, burial, and resurrection, isn’t adding Jesus to your life, it is forsaking and turning away from all that keeps you back from following Jesus.
You don’t build Jesus into your life, you build your life around Jesus. Without a firm foundation, how are you supposed to build any sort of sturdy structure? (Matthew 7:24-27)
Jesus is the Vine and we are the branches (John 15:1-11). Branches can’t live, much less grow and bear fruit, without being attached to the Vine.
Following Jesus completely is literally the best thing you can do, so to only follow Him partially or sometimes is like going to the best doctor out there, having him tell you exactly what you need, and having easy access to the best medicine available, but still walking around afflicted with a perfectly curable disease because you didn’t follow all of the doctor’s instructions. Following Jesus only partially is like trying to run and win a race while constantly looking behind you and worrying about what you’ve left behind instead of focusing on the finish line and the prize for crossing it.
Jesus does not want to be a part of your life, He wants to be your whole life.
