This Easter at church, I feel like we dwelled a little more than usual on Paul’s words about Christ’s resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15, and I enjoyed it. Salvation isn’t just about the birth and death of Jesus, it is also about His resurrection! If Christ hasn’t actually risen, then Jesus isn’t who He said He was, and there’s no point to believing in Him.

If Christ hasn’t actually risen, then there’s no reason to preach and believe that He is. If Christ hasn’t actually risen, we Christians lying about God raising Jesus from the dead. If Christ hasn’t actually risen, then we are still in our sins and have not been saved from death and separation from God. If Christ hasn’t actually risen, then we do not get to rise again. To paraphrase Paul, if setting our hope on and in Christ is only for this life and nothing else after, then we are the most miserable and pitiable people in the world.

But because Christ has actually risen, we can be saved from our sins and separation from God! Because Christ has actually risen, we too will be able rise again someday! Because Christ has actually risen, we have every reason to preach and believe that He is! The resurrection is the completion and the proof of God’s redemptive work through Christ!
