The days around Christmas and other winter holidays can be quite dizzying. It seems to be getting busier and busier each year – more things to get done, more people to see, more things to buy, more commercials to watch, more food to make. It can get so very overwhelming!
Sometimes it just makes you glad when it’s all over. But let’s take a moment to stop, to relax, and maybe even to contemplate. Why are you celebrating? What is Christmas really for? Receiving gifts is nice, seeing family is wonderful, and giving to others is blessed, but why do we do all these things in the first place?
Take some time to rest and think about Jesus. Breathe for a minute and remember what God gave to us on the night His Son was born. Be still and contemplate why Jesus came of His own will, and what He came to do. Sit down and read about Jesus in your Bible.
Now that you have that in your head – the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus – let that give you some perspective in your celebration. Maybe you’ll find yourself a little “peace on earth” in this busy time of year.
