I have a little more from Sunday morning’s sermon to share. One note in particular needed its own post.
Sometimes certain actions won’t change your status with someone, but they will change your relationship with them. For example, even if I offend my parents so badly that they won’t talk to me anymore, I’m still their daughter. The status hasn’t changed, but our relationship has. This is how it works in our relationship with God. If you are saved and adopted as His child, nothing can change that. You are legally God’s child now, no matter what. But the dynamic and flavor of that relationship changes depending on how we act and behave.
Now I’m not saying that God has favorites or that He gives you special treatment when you do good things more than you do bad things. The Bible doesn’t say that, so I’m not saying that. I am saying that it’s a whole lot easier to relate with God when you actively choose the right things to do. Being on the same page with someone always makes things easier. But even if you actively choose the wrong things and even if God gets sad or even angry with you, God will still love you. God will love you just the same whatever choices you make, and at the same time He wants you to make the correct choices. Your choices won’t change your legal standing with God, but they will change the dynamic and flavor of your relationship with Him.
