Sometimes when you ask a child to say a prayer before a meal, they will start thanking God for things that we don’t usually think about. I’ve seen a kid actually peek up from a bowed head to glance around the table to see if there was something she missed, and she started thanking God for the forks and the knives and the spoons and the napkins and so on. I remembered that today and started thinking about the things I hear people thank God for and about what I thank God for. Sometimes I only think about big things, sometimes I only think about small things, but any time you have something big or small to thank God for, you should do so.
It’s good to be thankful for the big and the little, and everything in between. I’m thankful for my salvation, for my family, for my church, for the food I ate today, for the forks and knives I used to eat it, for my shoes and socks, for a place to live, for a good job, for my clothes, for hot running water, for the happiness and joy I find from God each day.
Let’s consistently take time to be thankful even outside of Thanksgiving. Pick anything you’re thankful for, be it big, little, or in between, and express thankfulness.
